The climate of Sabha (or Sebha) is subtropical desert, with mild winters, during which it can get cold at night, and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the Libyan desert, at 430 meters (1,410 feet) above sea level, and is the historic capital of the Fezzan region.
In winter, the temperature can occasionally drop to 0 °C (32 °F) or slightly below. In February 1962, it dropped to -3 °C (26.5 °F).
In summer, the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F). The heat record is 47.5 °C (117.5 °F).
