Climate chart - Naryn
The climate of Naryn is semi-arid continental, with cold winters and relatively warm summers.

Naryn is a city of 40,000 inhabitants, located in the central-eastern part of Kyrgyzstan, in the region of the same name (of which it is the capital), at 2,050 meters (6,700 feet) above sea level, in a valley between the Tian Shan mountains, crossed by the Naryn River, and at 41 degrees north latitude.
Due to its altitude, Naryn is a particularly cold city.

Precipitation is quite scarce, amounting to about 340 millimeters (13.5 inches) per year.
The rainiest seasons are spring, due to the clash of air masses typical of this season, and summer, due to afternoon thunderstorms.

Winter, from November to March, is very cold: the average temperature in January is around -14 °C (7 °F).
Due to the arid climate, snowfall is generally light. However, there are periods when light snow often falls.
During cold waves, the temperature drops to -25 °C (-13 °F) almost every year, and more rarely to around -30 °C (-22 °F). The coldest record is -38 °C (-36.4 °F), set in February 1929.
In January 1936, the monthly daily average was -24.9 °C (-12.8 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is quite warm and sunny during the day, although rain and thunderstorms are quite frequent, and the nights are very cool. The average in July is around 18 °C (64.5 °F).
Sometimes there can be hot periods, during which the temperature can reach and exceed 30 °C (86 °F). The highest record is 36.9 °C (98.4 °F), set in July 1983.
In July 2015, the average maximum temperature was 29.5 °C (85 °F).
