Climate chart - Jezkazgan
The climate of Zhezkazgan is arid continental, with very cold winters and hot summers.

Zhezqazgan (or Zhezqazgan, Jezkazgan) is a city of 85,000 inhabitants located in the center of Kazakhstan, in the region (oblys) of Ūlytau, of which it is the capital, at 350 meters (1,150 feet) above sea level, and at almost 48 degrees north latitude.
The Karakengir (or Kengir) River, which flows through the city, is widened by a dam.
To the northwest are the Ulytau mountains (or Ulutau), which reach 1,131 meters (3,710 feet) of height.
To the southeast is the Betpak-Dala or Hungry Steppe.

Precipitation is very low, less than 200 millimeters (8 inches) per year. In particular, summer, a season when thunderstorms occur in northern Kazakhstan, here is dry.

Winter, from November to March, is very cold: the average temperature in January is around -13.5 °C (7.5 °F).
During periods of stable weather, fog can form.
Due to the arid climate, snowfall is generally light. However, there are periods when light snow often falls.
During cold spells, the temperature drops every year to around or below -30 °C (-22 °F). The coldest record is -43 °C (-45.4 °F), set in January 1943. In January 1969, the daily average was -26.7 °C (-16.1 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with rare thunderstorms. The average for July is 24 °C (77 °F).
Sometimes there can be heat waves, during which the temperature reaches 38/40 °C (100/104 °F), and sometimes it can exceed them.
The hottest record is 45.2 °C (113.4 °F), set in July 2021. In July 2023, the average maximum was 35.7 °C (96.3 °F).
