Climate chart - Aqaba
The climate of Aqaba is subtropical desert, with very mild winters, very hot summers, and sunshine all year round.
Aqaba is a city of 170,000 inhabitants, located in the extreme south of Jordan, at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba (part of the Red Sea) and at 29 degrees north latitude.
To the west, just across the border with Israel, is the city of Eilat, and more to the southwest is the village of Taba, in the Sinai Peninsula, belonging to Egypt. Saudi Arabia is also not far away: just 18 km (11 mi) to the south.

Precipitation is decidedly scarce, since it barely exceeds 20 millimeters (0.8 inches) per year, is very rare, and falls from October to May. From June to September it never rains.

Winter, from December to February, is very mild and sunny, with rare rainfall. The average temperature in January is around 16 °C (61 °F).
However, there can sometimes be cool periods, with lows of around 5 °C (41 °F) or a little below and highs of around 15 °C (59 °F).
The coldest record is 0.9 °C (33.6 °F), set during the historic cold wave that hit the Middle East in February 1950. After 2000, the temperature dropped to 3.2 °C (37.8 °F) in January 2008.

Summer, from June to September, is scorchingly hot, sunny and without rain. The temperature is very high, in fact, the average maximum in July and August is 40 °C (104 °F), in return, the humidity is not high and the wind is not lacking.
Sometimes there can be heat waves from the deserts of Egypt, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F). The heat record is 48.9 °C (120 °F), set at the beginning of September 2020.

Near Aqaba, the sea is a bit cool for swimming in winter, in fact the water temperature drops to 20.5/21 °C (69/70 °F) from January to March, while it is pleasantly warm in the summer months.
