Climate chart - Siena
The climate of Siena can be described as transitional Mediterranean, since it has relatively mild winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in central Tuscany, 320 meters (1,050 feet) above sea level. We are in a vast hilly area, which includes the Montagnola Senese to the west and the Crete Senesi to the southeast. The hilly area to the north, which extends to the provinces of Arezzo and Florence, is called Chianti.
The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Winter, from December to February, is quite mild, however, due to the altitude and distance from the sea, it is a little colder than on the coast.
Snow in Siena is quite rare, however, it can sometimes occur. Typically, the snow reaches 15-20 cm (6-8 in) during the heaviest snowfalls, but in February 1991 it reached 40 cm (15.5 in).
On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature can drop to -4/-5 °C (23/25 °F), while during the most intense cold spells it can drop lower. In January 1985 it dropped to -11.7 °C (10.9 °F).
