Climate chart - Ravenna
In Ravenna, the climate is semi-continental. Winters are quite cold, while summers are hot and sunny, a little stuffy but tempered by the breeze.
The city is located in northern Italy, in Romagna, a few kilometers away from the coast of the Adriatic Sea and at 44 degrees north latitude.
On the coast there are towns such as Casalborsetti, Marina di Ravenna, Punta Marina and Lido Adriano.
North of Ravenna is a wetland, the Valli di Comacchio, and even further north is the Po river delta.
This area is a little milder than the Po Valley, however it is exposed to the cold bora wind, which blows in gusts from the plains of Eastern Europe, especially in the cold half year. On the other hand, warm winds can blow, the sirocco from the southeast and the garbino, the wind from the Apennines, from the southwest.

Ravenna

In winter, from December to February, there can be cold, gray and foggy periods, throughout less often than in Emilia. However, the wind can increase the feeling of cold, especially when the Bora blows.
Snow in Ravenna is quite rare, because during cold waves, the wind blows directly from the sea. On average, 15 cm (6 in) of snow fall per year. However, when the air mass is very cold it can also snow, and sometimes the snow can be abundant. In February 1929, the thickness of the snow reached 108 cm (42.5 in) in height, while in February 2012, it reached one meter (39 in).
During cold spells, which are becoming rarer due to global warming, the temperature can drop to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F) or below. In February 2012, it dropped to -16 °C (3 °F).

The summer, from June to August, is hot and muggy, and generally sunny. The breeze from the sea makes the heat much more bearable than in the cities of Emilia.
However, sometimes it can be very hot, especially when the wind blows from the south. In July 2007, the temperature reached 40.4 °C (104.7 °F).
Sometimes there may be some rainy days even in summer, or thunderstorms may break out in the afternoon or in the evening.

Best Time

The best time to go to Ravenna and the Adriatic coast for beach holidays, is the summer, from June to August, with a preference for July and August, since they are the hottest and sunniest months of the year, and when the sea is warmest as well.
To visit the city, you can choose the periods from mid-April to mid-June and from early September to early October. However, some rainy days must be taken into account in both periods.
