Climate chart - Pisa
The climate of Pisa is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the north of Tuscany, 10 km (6 miles) from the coast.
Autumn is clearly the wettest season, when the rains can be abundant.

Winter, from December to February, is mild.
During periods of high pressure, at night the temperature can approach freezing, and fog can form, but usually the sun comes out during the day.
There are also periods of bad weather, with clouds and rain.
The wind from the north, the tramontana, brings cold and sunny days, with highs below 10 °C (50 °F) and possible light frosts at night. Sometimes, there can be particularly cold days, in which the maximum remains around 5 °C (41 °F) despite the sun.
On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature typically drops to around -5 °C (23 °F), but can sometimes drop lower.
At San Giusto airport, the temperature dropped to -11 °C (12 °F) in February 1956, to -12 °C (10.5 °F) in January 1968, to -7.5 °C (18.5 °F) in March 1971, to -14 °C (7 °F) (record) in January 1985, and to -8 °C (17.5 °F) in February 1993. After the year 2000, it dropped to -7 °C (19.5 °F) in February 2012.
Due to local conditions (the sea to the west and the protection offered by Mount Pisano to the east), snow in Pisa is very rare, even rarer than in other areas of the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian side. However, snow whitened the city in December 2009, December 2010 and early March 2018.

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with rare thunderstorms. During the day, it is hot, though less than in Florence, moreover, the sea breeze blows in the afternoon.
Sometimes, however, there can be particularly hot and muggy periods. On the hottest days of the year, the temperature typically reaches around 35 °C (95 °F).
The record temperature of 38.5 °C (101.5 °F) was registered in August 2011. Previously, the temperature had reached 38 °C (100.5 °F) in July 1983 and in August 2003.
