In Pesaro there is a
semi-continental climate, with quite cold winters and hot, sunny summers, a bit muggy but tempered by the breeze.
Sometimes, especially in winter, the bora, the cold wind can blow from the plains of Eastern Europe. On other occasions, the garbino, the warm wind that comes down from the mountains, can blow.
The city is located in north-central Italy, in the Marche region, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Near the city we find the regional natural park of Monte San Bartolo.
The
winter, from December to February, is quite cold, even though it is not as cold as in the Po valley. However, the wind can increase the feeling of cold, especially when the bora blows.
In periods of high pressure, fog can form.
When the wind blows from the south, temperatures become milder, and during the day they can reach, and sometimes exceed, 15 °C (59 °F).
Snow in Pesaro is rarer than in Emilia-Romagna. Sometimes, due to its position on the coast and exposure to the sirocco, it can happen that it rains in Pesaro while further north it snows. On average, 10 cm (4 in) of snow fall per year.
However, sometimes there can be heavy snowfall. In February 1991, the white mantle reached 40 cm (15.5 in) in height, while in February 2012 it reached half a metre (19.5 in).
During
cold spells, which are becoming rarer due to global warming, the temperature can drop by several degrees below freezing. In January 1985 it dropped to -13 °C (8.5 °F), while in February 1940 it dropped to -15 °C (5 °F).
Summer, from June to August, is hot and humid, and generally sunny. During the day, sea breezes usually make the heat bearable, while nights are sultry because of the humidity coming from the sea.
The
hottest periods occur when the south wind blows: in these cases, the tempering effect of the sea disappears and the temperature can reach 35/37 °C (95/99 °F). The heat record is of 39 °C (102 °F)
Sometimes, Atlantic disturbances able to bring cool and rainy weather can affect this area in summer as well, perhaps accompanied by gusts of Bora, especially in June and late August, or thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening, but for long periods, the weather is hot and sunny.
Best Time
The
best time to go to Pesaro for a beach holiday is the summer, especially in July and August, since they are the hottest and sunniest months of the year, and when the sea is warmest as well.
To visit the city, you can choose the periods from mid-April to mid-June and from early September to early October. However, some rainy days must be taken into account in both periods.
