Climate chart - Palinuro
The climate of Palinuro is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The town is located on the coast of southern Campania, between the gulf of Velia and that of Policastro, and is a fraction of the municipality of Centola, which is located on the Cilento hills.
Nearby is the promontory of Capo Palinuro, while further south is Marina di Camerota. The meteorological station is located on the promontory, at 185 metres (605 ft).
Winter, from December to February, is mild, and is characterized by sunny periods alternating with rainy periods.
It rarely gets very cold, although there can sometimes be cold, windy, and rainy days, with highs around 6/7 °C (43/45 °F).
Snow is very rare, more so than in the rest of Campania.
At night, the temperature almost never drops below freezing, however, in January 1954 it went down to -3.3 °C (26 °F), while in February 1956 it went down to -2 °C (28.5 °F).

Palinuro

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny. The rains are very rare, but we can not exclude some thunderstorms every so often.
Typically, the air is humid, but the sea breeze blows, relieving the heat.
Under the influence of the scirocco, the south wind from Africa, there can be hot days, with highs of 35 °C (95 °F) or more.

Best Time


The best months for a beach holiday in Palinuro are July and August. In June, the days are long and the weather is often good, but the sea is still a bit cool. You can still go in September, in fact the sea is still quite warm, but the days get shorter and the first waves of bad weather can occur, especially in the second half of the month.
