In Foppolo there is a
mountain climate, cold in winter and mild in summer. In winter it can snow, while in summer there are heavy thunderstorms, usually in the afternoon or in the evening.
Furthermore, there may be
temperature swings, as is typical of the mountains.
The town is located in northern Italy, in the province of Bergamo, in the Alta Val Brembana, 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. To the south-east, beyond Monte Valgussera and Pizzo del Vescovo, is Carona, located at an altitude of 1,100 metres (3,600 ft). To the north, beyond the mountains Pizzo Corno Stella (2,621 metres or 8,609 feet) and Monte Toro (2,524 metres or 8,280 feet) lies Valtellina.
In
winter, it is usually cold. However, there may be sunny days, during which the maximum temperature reaches 8/10 °C (46/50 °F), and sometimes even 15°C (59 °F). During cold periods, the temperature can drop to -15 °C (5 °F) or even below.
In
summer, from June to August, temperatures are generally mild. In general, it is sunny in the morning, while towards midday, clouds can form and thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon. It can get cold at night, even though the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. On the warmest days, the temperature usually reaches 25 °C (77 °F), but sometimes it can even reach 27/28 °C (81/82 °F).
At an altitude of 2,000 metres (6,500 feet), the maximum temperature in July and August is around 15 °C (59 °F).
Best Time
You can go to Foppolo both in winter, perhaps for skiing, and in summer, perhaps for trekking in the mountains and to escape the heat of the plains.
