Climate chart - Foggia
The climate of Foggia can be defined as Mediterranean, since it has mild, quite rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. However, there are some continental characteristics, since the summer is very hot and the winter can sometimes be cold. Also, the rains are quite scarce.
The city is located in southern Italy, in the plain called Tavoliere delle Puglie, and is the northernmost provincial capital of Apulia (Puglia). About 30 km (18 mi) to the east is the coast of the Adriatic Sea (Gulf of Manfredonia), to the north-east is the promontory of the Gargano, while to the west are the Daunian Mountains.
The province of Foggia is called Capitanata.
The winter, from December to February, is mild, and characterized by sunny periods alternating with rainy periods. In periods of stable weather, fog can form at night, and the minimum temperature can drop to 0 °C (32 °F) or slightly below.
Due to the proximity to the Balkan peninsula, from December to March, there can be cold periods, usually of short duration, in which the temperature remains close to freezing even during the day. In these cases, it can even snow. Generally, a few centimeters of snow fall, but during the heaviest snowfalls, such as that of January 1993 and of December 1996, the white mantle can reach 30 cm (12 inches).
During cold spells, the temperature can drop to -5 °C (23 °F), but sometimes even below. In January 1985 it dropped to -10.4 °C (13.3 °F) at the Amendola airport.

Foggia

The summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with rare rainy days and some thunderstorms coming from the Apennines.
