Climate chart - Cervia
In Cervia, the climate is semi-continental. Winters are quite cold, while summers are hot and sunny, a little stuffy but tempered by the breeze.
The city is located in northern Italy, in Romagna, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, 20 km (12 mi) south of Ravenna and at 44 degrees north latitude.
This area is a little milder than the Po Valley, however it is exposed to the cold bora wind, which blows in gusts from the plains of Eastern Europe, especially in the cold half year. On the other hand, warm winds can blow, the sirocco from the southeast and the garbino, the wind from the Apennines, from the southwest.

Cervia

In winter, from December to February, there can be cold, gray and foggy periods, throughout less often than in Emilia. However, the wind can increase the feeling of cold, especially when the Bora blows.
Snow in Cervia is quite rare, because during cold periods, the wind blows directly from the sea. However, when the air mass is very cold, it can also snow, and sometimes the snow can be abundant. On average, 12 cm (4.7 in) of snow fall per year. In February 2012, a total of about one meter (39.3 in) of snow fell.
During cold spells, which are becoming rarer due to global warming, the temperature can drop to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F) or below. In February 1956 it dropped to -17 °C (1.5 °F), while in January 1985 it dropped to -16.5 °C (2.5 °F).

The summer, from June to August, is hot and muggy, and generally sunny. The breeze from the sea makes the heat much more bearable than in the cities of Emilia.
However, sometimes it can be very hot, especially when the wind blows from the south. In July 1983 the temperature reached 39 °C (102 °F).
Sometimes there may be some rainy days even in summer, or thunderstorms may break out in the afternoon or in the evening.

Best Time

The best time to go to Cervia and the Adriatic coast for beach holidays, is the summer, from June to August, with a preference for July and August, since they are the hottest and sunniest months of the year, and when the sea is warmest as well.
To visit the city, you can choose the periods from mid-April to mid-June and from early September to early October. However, some rainy days must be taken into account in both periods.
