Average weather, temperature, rainfall, sunshine hours

The climate of Benevento can be defined as
transitional Mediterranean, given that it has relatively mild winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in southern Italy, in Campania, at an altitude of 135 metres (440 feet). To the west and south we find the southern Apennines, while to the north and east we find mainly hills.
The
winter, from December to February, is quite mild, however, it depends on the period.
There are mild periods, in which the Atlantic currents prevail, during which there can also be rainy days.
During periods of stable weather, it can get cold at night, fog can form and the temperature can drop to the freezing point or slightly below.
On the other hand, during cold spells, the temperature can drop by several degrees, and it can even snow.
In fact, snow in Benevento is quite rare, but it is more frequent than in Naples and on the coasts of Campania. Sometimes there can be quite heavy snowfalls, of 30-40 cm (12-15.5 in). In early December 1973, there was an exceptional snowfall, and the snow reached one meter (40 in) deep.
During cold waves, the temperature can drop by several degrees below freezing. In February 2008 it dropped to -8.5 °C (16.5 °F).
The
summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with rare rainy days and some thunderstorms coming from the Apennines.
At night the temperature drops a lot, but during the day it can be very hot, with highs of 36/37 °C (97/99 °F), and sometimes even 39/40 °C (102/104 °F).
Best Time
The
best times to visit Benevento are spring and autumn, ie from mid-April to mid-June and from September to early October. In June, the weather is often nice, but it can sometimes get hot, especially in the second half of the month.
