Climate chart - Agrigento
The climate of Agrigento is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located at 3 km (1.8 mi) away from the southern Sicilian coast, on a hill, at 300 meters (1,000 feet) above sea level.
Winter, from December to February, is mild, and is characterized by sunny periods alternating with rainy periods.
It gets seldom very cold, however, during irruptions of cold air, the minimum temperature can occasionally drop to around 0 °C (32 °F).
Snow in Agrigento is very rare, while it is a little less rare in the cities of the province located further north and at slightly higher altitudes, such as Racalmuto and Canicattì. However, a snowfall can occasionally occur, most likely in the upper part of the city. In December 2014, even the Valley of the Temples was covered with snow.
The Valley of the Temples is located south of Agrigento, between 70 and 180 meters (230 and 590 ft) above sea level, on the hills that slope down towards the sea.

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with very rare rains. Temperatures are very high, and become even higher during the invasion of hot air from Africa. In these cases, temperatures can reach and exceed 40 °C (104 °F). In 2000, the temperature reached 42.4 °C (108.3 °F) in July and 43.5 °C (110.3 °F) in August.

On the coast (see Porto Empedocle, San Leone), paradoxically, the summer temperatures are a little lower, in fact, the average high in July and August is 30 °C (86 °F).

Best Time

To visit Agrigento, you can choose the periods from mid-April to mid-May and from mid-September to mid-October, since in summer it can get very hot. It must be said that in both periods there may be rainy days.
The best months for a beach holiday on the coast are July and August. In June, the days are longer and the weather is often good, but the sea is still a bit cool. You can still go in September, in fact the sea is still quite warm, but the days get shorter and the first waves of bad weather can occur, especially in the second half of the month.
