Climate chart - Haifa
The climate of Haifa is Mediterranean, with very mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
Haifa is a city located in the northwest of Israel (with 290,000 inhabitants, it is the third in the country), on the Mediterranean coast, and at almost 33 degrees north latitude.
Nearby is Mount Carmel (or Mount Mar Elias), a chain of hills that reach 525 meters (1,722 feet) in height.
About 25 km (15 mi) to the southeast, at 400 meters (1,300 ft) above sea level, is the city of Nazareth.

Precipitation is not abundant, since it amounts to 540 millimeters (21 inches) per year, however, it is concentrated from November to March, a period during which it can be abundant. In the warm season, it almost never rains for a long period, from May to September.

Winter, from December to February, is very mild, with an average January temperature of around 14 °C (57 °F). There are sunny periods, however, there are also periods of bad weather, with wind, rain and thunderstorms.
Sometimes there can be somewhat cold periods, with lows close to freezing and highs of 10/12 °C (50/54 °F). In February 1992, there was a day with a maximum of 7 °C (44.5 °F).
Snow in Haifa is extremely rare. The only snowfall with accumulation that is remembered is that of February 1950, when 15 cm (6 in) of snow fell.

Summer, from June to September, is hot, muggy and sunny. The average temperature in August, the hottest month, is 28.5 °C (83.5 °F). The humidity is high, although the breeze from the sea provides some relief. Rainfall is very rare, especially in July and August, when it basically never rains.
There can be very hot and muggy periods, with highs of 34/35 °C (93/95 °F), during which the combination of humidity and temperature makes the heat unpleasant.
Also, there can sometimes be heatwaves from the deserts of Egypt, but these are more likely in spring, and a little less so in autumn, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 40 °C (104 °F). In these cases, however, the humidity decreases considerably. The heat record is 43 °C (109.5 °F), set in early June 2002.

In summer, the sea in Haifa is pleasantly warm and allows for long swims, especially from July to September.
