The climate of Urmia is
arid continental (according to the Köppen classification, cold semi-arid or steppe climate - BSk), with cold winters and hot, sunny summers.
Urmia (also spelled Orumiyeh, Oroumieh, Oroumiyeh, Orūmīyeh and Urūmiyeh, formerly Rezaiyeh) is a city of 735,000 inhabitants located in the northwest of Iran, in the province of East Azerbaijan, at 37 degrees north latitude and 1,350 meters (4,400 feet) above sea level. About 35 km (21 mi) to the west is the border with Turkey, while further south is the border with Iraq.

Lake Urmia, one of the largest salt lakes in the world. The lake influences the climate, making the summer a little less hot, but with a little higher humidity, than in other cities of the province such as Tabriz.
Winter, from December to February, is cold, with a daily average around freezing.
