Climate chart - Rasht
The climate of Rasht is humid temperate, with mild winters and hot summers. Rainfall is abundant, especially in autumn and winter. It is no coincidence that Rasht is known in Iran as the "city of rain".

Although the Caspian Sea moderates the climate, there can be air mass clashes and temperature changes, especially in winter and spring. In fact, cold air can arrive from the north, originally coming from Russia, while warm winds can blow from the south, descending from the Alborz mountains, which separate the Caspian Sea from the arid plateau of Iran, and which in this area exceed 3,000 meters (9,800 feet).

Winter, from December to February, is mild and rainy. However, different situations occur. During periods of stable weather, fog can form. The south wind can raise the temperature to almost 30 °C (86 °F) even in this season.
On the other hand, the north wind can bring cold periods, and sometimes even snow. The coldest record is -19 °C (-2 °F), set in January 1964. In the last thirty years, the record is -12.4 °C (9.7 °F), set in January 2008. In February 2020, the temperature dropped to -9 °C (16 °F) after a heavy snowfall, but in the previous days, with the south wind, it had reached 29 °C (84 °F).
Sometimes the snow can be particularly heavy. In the past, there were winters in which the snow depth exceeded 2 meters (6 feet and a half).

Summer, from June to August, is not as hot as on the Iranian plateau, but it is sultry. In addition, thunderstorms can sometimes break out. During heat waves, the temperature can reach 37/38 °C (99/100 °F).

Rasht (formerly Bandar-e Pahlavi) is a city of 680,000 inhabitants located in northern Iran, in the province of Gilan (of which it is the capital), at 37 degrees north latitude and 15 kilometers (9 miles) away from the coast of the Caspian Sea, the largest lake in the world, from which comes the humidity that makes this the only green area of Iran.
On the coast is the city of Bandar-e-Anzali. About 20 km (12 mi) to the southwest is the city of Fuman, while further southwest, on the first hills, is the Rudkhan castle.
