The climate of Omidiyeh is subtropical desert, with mild winters and extremely hot, sunny summers. Precipitation, scarce, occurs mostly from November to April.

Omidiyeh is a city of 67,000 inhabitants located in the south-west of Iran, in the province of Khuzestan, at almost 31 degrees north latitude. About 70 km (45 mi) to the south is the coast of the Persian Gulf, while 135 km (85 mi) to the southwest is the border with Iraq. To the east lies the Zagros mountain range.

Winter, from December to February, is very mild, so much so that there are many days with highs above 20 °C (68 °F). However, there can be somewhat cold periods, during which the temperature can approach freezing at night and remain at around 10/12 °C (50/54 °F) during the day. In January 2012 it dropped to -2.4 °C (27.7 °F), while in January 2008 there was a day with a maximum of 7.4 °C (45.3 °F).

Summer is extremely hot, so much so that the highs in July reach 47 °C (116.5 °F). In fact, we are in one of the hottest areas in the world, which also includes southern Iraq and Kuwait. The hottest records are also among the highest in the world. In July 2011 the temperature reached 52.6 °C (126.7 °F).
However, the humidity is low, and the wind often blows, which can lift sand and dust.
