Climate chart - Kermun
The climate of Kerman (or Kermun) is subtropical desert, with quite cold winters and very hot, sunny summers. Precipitation, decidedly scarce, occurs mostly from December to April.

Kerman is a city of 535,000 inhabitants located on the Iranian plateau, at 1,750 meters (5,700 feet) above sea level and at 30 degrees north latitude.
Near the city are the Kuhbonan mountains, whose highest peak, Mount Pelvar, reaches 4,233 meters (13,888 ft). To the east of these mountains, and about 50 km (30 mi) away from Kerman, is the Lut desert, a very hot area, whose altitude varies between 200 and 700 meters (650 and 2,300 ft).

Winter, from December to February, is quite mild during the day, but at night the temperature drops considerably, and there are frequent night frosts. During periods of stable weather, fog can form.
There can be mild periods, with highs of 20 °C (68 °F) or more, but also cold periods, during which snowfall can occur, usually not abundant given the low level of precipitation. During cold spells, the temperature can drop to -10 °C (14 °F) or below. In January 2014, it dropped to -20.8 °C (-5.5 °F). In January 1973 it even dropped to -30 °C (-22 °F).
