The climate of Samarinda, the most populous city in Borneo, is equatorial, hot, humid and rainy all year round, although the rains are more frequent and abundant from December to March and less from June in October.
The city is located in Indonesia, about 40 km (25 mi) from the east coast of Borneo, in the province of East Kalimantan, on the banks of the Mahakam River, which then widens into a delta and flows into the Makassar Strait.
Being at the equator, Samarinda is not affected by tropical cyclones.
