Climate chart - Merauke
The climate of Merauke is tropical, hot all year round, with a relatively cool, dry season from June to October and a rainy season from November to May.
The city is located in southeastern Indonesia, in the province of Papua (formerly Irian Jaya), which occupies the western part of the island of New Guinea, on the coast of the Arafura Sea and the estuary of the Maro River. We are at 8 degrees south latitude and about 65 km (40 mi) from the border with Papua-New Guinea.
From November to mid-May, but more often from January to mid-April, Merauke can be affected by tropical cyclones, although most of them pass further south, over Australia.
