Baubau's climate is tropical, hot all year round, with a dry season from July to October and a rainy season from December to April.
The city is located in Indonesia, at 5 degrees south latitude, on the island of Buton, to the southeast of Celebes (or Sulawesi). To the east is the Wakatobi National Park, which includes the Tukangbesi Islands.
Temperatures are slightly lower in the Southern Hemisphere winter (June to August), when the southeast monsoon prevails, and slightly higher before the rainy season (from September to November).
Being close to the equator, Baubau is not affected by tropical cyclones.
