Weather and climate in Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh)

The climate of Vijayawada (formerly Bezawada) is tropical, with a rainy season from June to October, due to the monsoon, and a dry season from December to May. From late March to early June, before the monsoon, it is very hot, and the temperature can exceed 40 °C (104 °F). Showers can occur from time to time, especially in May. In November, which is usually a dry month, during some years the last rains can occur, due to depressions or tropical cyclones.
The city is located in the east of India, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, at 16 degrees north latitude, on the banks of the Krishna River, and 50 km (30 mi) from the Bay of Bengal.
About 10 km (6 mi) to the west is Amaravati, the new capital under construction of Andhra Pradesh, since Hyderabad, the old capital, is now located in the new state of Telangana, born in 2014.
