Climate chart - Ranchi
The climate of Ranchi is subtropical, slightly tempered by altitude, with a rainy season from June to mid-October, due to the monsoon, and a dry season from mid-October to May. The rains usually end in early or mid-October.
The city is the capital of the state of Jharkhand and is located in the east of India, just south of the Tropic of Cancer and 650 meters (2,100 feet) above sea level.
In winter, from mid-November to late February or early March, nights are cool, and sometimes even cold. The temperature dropped to 3.2 °C (37.8 °F) in January 2001 and to 3.5 °C (38.3 °F) in February 2008.
From mid-March to early June, before the monsoon, it is very hot, and in the hottest periods the temperature can exceed 40 °C (104 °F). It reached 43.3 °C (109.9 °F) in early June 1995 and 43.2 °C (109.8 °F) in mid-May 2017.
Due to the altitude, from July to September, during the rainy days the maximum temperatures can remain around 25 °C (77 °F).

Ranchi

Ranchi is in the path of tropical cyclones. Typically, cyclones occur from April to December, with two intensity peaks before and after the monsoon (from late April to early June and in October-November).

Best Time



The best time to visit Ranchi is from November to February, being the coolest within the dry season. Sometimes, it can get a little chilly at night, more likely from mid-December to mid-February. It must be said that until around December 20, a cyclone can still pass from time to time. In February the temperature rises, and in the second half of the month it can get hot.
