Climate in Mangalore (Karnataka)

The climate of Mangalore (or Mangaluru) is tropical, with a rainy season from June to October due to the monsoon and a dry season from December to April, with May and November as transitional months.
The city is located in the south-west of India, in the state of Karnataka, at almost 13 degrees north latitude, on the coast of the Arabian Sea, and is surrounded by the Gurupura and Netravati rivers, which join right near the coast. To the east are the Western Ghats.
The hottest time of the year is from February to May, before the monsoon.
In this area, the summer monsoon has remarkable effects, especially in the first part, when it blows directly from the southwest, hitting the coast in full, in fact, from June to August Mangalore is the rainiest city in India, and in June and July, more than one meter (40 in) of rain falls per month.



Mangalore is in the path of tropical cyclones. Cyclones typically occur from April to December, although southern India is normally affected only from mid-October to December. In May, a cyclone can occasionally form off the southwest coast, on the Lakshadweep Islands, which can bring heavy rains on the coast of southwestern India, as happened in mid-May 2021 with cyclone Tauktae.
