The climate of Ghaziabad is
subtropical, with a very mild and sunny winter, a very hot season from mid-March to mid-June, and a sultry and rainy period from late June to late September, due to the monsoon. In recent decades, the monsoon has affected the city on average from June 27 to September 25, although the dates may vary from year to year.
The city is located in northern India, at 28 degrees north latitude, in the state of
Uttar Pradesh, at 200 meters (650 feet) above sea level and on the banks of the Hindon River, a tributary of the Yamuna, the river of New Delhi. Indeed, Ghaziabad is merged with the eastern suburbs of Delhi. For this reason, data from New Delhi can be used for climate statistics.
We are in the Indo-Gangetic plain, which is a
very polluted area, especially from October to February, when air stagnates more easily.
In
winter, from mid-November to late February or early March, nights are cool, and sometimes even cold.
In addition, from November to February,
fog can form at night and in the early morning. The fog usually dissolves during the day, however, in these situations, it can sometimes be cool even during the day, with highs of 14/15 °C (57/59 °F), and sometimes even below.
From mid-March to mid-June, before the monsoon,
it is very hot. In the hottest periods, the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F).
Typically, Ghaziabad is not affected by
tropical cyclones, which hit central and southern India, however, occasionally the remnants of a cyclone manage to penetrate inland and reach northern India, as did Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021. Cyclones typically occur from April to December, with two peaks at the beginning and end of the period (in May and November).
Best Time
The
best time to visit Ghaziabad is from November to February, being the coolest within the dry season. It must be said that this is the time of the year when pollution is highest. Also, in the middle of winter, usually from mid-December to mid-January, it can get a little cold and fog can be persistent, so the latter period can be avoided.
