Climate chart - Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)
Climate chart - Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)

The climate of Bhopal is subtropical, slightly tempered by altitude, with a rainy season from June to September or early October, due to the monsoon, and a dry season from mid-October to May. Since the dry season is long, the landscape is semi-arid.
The city is the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh and is located in north-central India, just south of the Tropic of Cancer and 500 meters (1,640 feet) above sea level. In the city there are several bodies of water: three lakes (Upper Lake, Lower Lake and Shahpura Lake), and some artificial reservoirs created by dams.
In winter, from mid-November to late February or early March, nights are cool, and sometimes even cold. In January 1991, the temperature dropped to 4 °C (39 °F), and in January 2011, to 2.3 °C (36 °F). Even in these cases, however, during the day the temperature reaches 18/20 °C (64/68 °F).
From mid-March to early June, before the monsoon, it is very hot, and in the hottest periods the temperature can reach 45 °C (113 °F). In May 2010 and in May 2016, the temperature reached 46 °C (115 °F), while in early June 2019, it reached 46.7 °C (116 °F).
Due to the altitude, from July to September, during the rainy days the maximum temperatures can remain around 25 °C (77 °F).

Bhopal

Bhopal is in the path of tropical cyclones. Typically, cyclones occur from April to December, with two intensity peaks before and after the monsoon (from late April to early June and in October-November). Since we are far from the coast, the city is not hit by cyclones at full strength, however, they can bring heavy rainfall.

Best Time

The best time to visit Bhopal is from November to February, being the coolest within the dry season. Sometimes, it can get a little chilly at night, more likely from mid-December to mid-February. In February the temperature rises, and in the second half of the month it can get hot.
