Temperatures are high all year round. In winter, sometimes at night it can get a little cool, with minimums of 11/12 °C (52/54 °F), but during the day the temperature rises significantly, up to around 30 °C (86 °F), even in these cases. Sometimes, the temperature can reach 35 °C (95 °F) even in winter.

Rainfall is not abundant, in fact it amounts to 600 millimeters (23.5 inches) per year. The only period with relatively abundant rainfall is from August to October. Anantapur is one of the driest cities in south-central India.
Indeed, both the monsoons that bring rain to India have limited effects here. The summer monsoon, which runs here from June 5th to mid-October, does not produce very evident effects, especially in the period in which the south-west currents prevail, i.e. from June to August, because these are blocked by the Western Ghats mountain range, which lies further west. Starting from August, when the periods in which the winds blow from the east increase, the rains become a little more abundant.
From mid-October to December, the north-east monsoon, or retreating monsoon, blows, which in the first period, until November, still brings some rain, but less than on the south-eastern coast of India. However, sometimes there may be heavier rainfall than usual, which can cause flooding, as happened in October 2022.
Some showers also occur in April and May, in the period of increasing heat preceding the monsoon.
Here is the average rainfall.

Anantapur is in the path of tropical cyclones. Cyclones typically occur from April to December, although southern India is normally affected only from mid-October to December. Since we are far from the coast, the city is not affected by cyclones at full strength, however, they can bring heavy rainfall, as happened in mid-November 2021.

Best Time

The best months to visit Anantapur are December and January, as they are the least hot within the dry season. November is generally a good month, in fact the temperatures are among the lowest of the year, furthermore it doesn't rain much, although it depends on the year.
