Climate chart - Amritsar
The climate of Amritsar is subtropical, with relatively dry, very mild winters (but during which it is often cold at night) and hot, rainy summers, due to the Indian monsoon. The monsoon runs roughly from July to mid-September.
The city is located in northern India, in the northernmost part of the plain, in the state of Punjab, at 31 degrees north latitude and 230 meters (755 feet) above sea level. Beyond the border with Pakistan, about 30 km (18 mi) to the west is the city of Lahore.
We are on the edge of the Indo-Gangetic plain, which is a very polluted area, especially from October to February, when air stagnates more easily.
In winter, from December to February (but sometimes also in November and March), nights are often cold. On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature can drop to the freezing point, or even to -2/-3 °C (27/28 °F). In the plains, we are in the coldest area of India.
Also, from November to February, fog can form at night and in the early morning. Generally, the fog dissolves during the day, however, in these situations, especially from mid-December to mid-January, it can sometimes be cold even during the day, and there may be periods in which the maximum remain around 8/10 °C (46/50 °F).
On the other hand, from April to early July, before the monsoon, it is very hot. In the hottest periods the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F). The heat records are around 48 °C (118.5 °F).
Unlike in central-southern India, in this northernmost part of the plain, some rain may occur in winter and spring, brought by disturbances of remote Mediterranean origin.

Best Time

The best time to visit Amritsar is from late October to the mid-March, being the coolest within the dry season. It must be said that this is the time of the year when pollution is highest. Also, in the middle of winter, usually from mid-December to late January, it can get a little cold and fog can be persistent, so the latter period can be avoided.
