Precipitation is not abundant, since it is lower than 550 millimeters (21.5 inches), although it is well distributed throughout the year. In fact, due to its location in the southern part of the German lowlands, far from the sea and the mountains, we are in the least rainy area of Germany, which includes, in addition to Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, the state that is located furthest to the east and surrounds the city of Berlin.

In winter, there may be periods of snow and ice. The temperature drops to -15 °C (5 °F) or below once every few years, although in the past it did it more often. The coldest record is -27.1 °C (-16.8 °F), set in February 1929.

In late spring and summer, thunderstorms can occur.

In summer, there may be cool and rainy days, but also hot periods, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 30 °C (86 °F), and more rarely 35 °C (95 °F). At nearby Leipzig Airport, the heat record is 38.3 °C (100.9 °F), set in late June 2019.

Best Time

The best time to visit Halle runs from mid-May to mid-September, since it is the warmest and sunniest period of the year. Sometimes, it can be hot in July and August, while in other circumstances, nights can be cool or even a little cold even in these months, so it can be useful to bring a sweatshirt or sweater and a light jacket.
