The climate of the Brocken is subarctic, with cold winters, mild summers, heavy snowfall in the cold half of the year, frequent rain, wind, and fog.

The Brocken (or Blocksberg), 1,141 meters (3,743 feet) high, is the highest peak in the Harz, an area of ​​hills and low mountains located in the central-northern Germany, between the states of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The area is protected in a national park.

Given the humid climate, the area is covered by forests, but the summit, having only two months with an average temperature above 10 °C (50 °F), is above the tree line (hence the definition of subarctic climate).

The wind blows frequently, with gusts that can exceed 100 kph (62 mph).

Precipitation is abundant, amounting to 1,800 millimeters (71 in) per year. We are in the rainiest area of ​​Central Europe. The disturbances pass all year round, while in summer thunderstorms can break out.
