Tbilisi is a windy city, and can experience strong winds quite frequently.

Precipitation is not abundant, since it amounts to about 500 millimeters (20 inches) per year. The driest season is winter, while the rainiest period is from April to June, due to the clashes of air masses typical of spring, and the afternoon instability that generates showers and thunderstorms, which partly continues in midsummer.

Winter, from December to February, is quite cold, although there can be mild periods, during which the temperature reaches or exceeds 15 °C (59 °F). The average temperature in January is around 3.5 °C (38.5 °F).
Snowfall is quite frequent, although it is not abundant due to the low level of precipitation.
In addition, cold spells can occur. Typically, the temperature drops to -10 °C (-14 °F) or below once every 5/6 years, and more rarely to around -15 °C (5 °F). The coldest record is -19.8 °C (-3.6 °F), set in January 1935.

Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny. Thunderstorms are quite frequent in June, and then decrease a bit in July and August. The latter are the hottest months, with an average of about 26 °C (79 °F).
There can be very hot periods, during which the temperature reaches or exceeds 35 °C (95 °F).
