Climate chart - Batumi
The climate in Batumi is humid subtropical, with mild winters, warm summers, and very abundant rainfall.

Batumi, formerly Batum or Batoum, is a city located in the south-west of Georgia (with 205,000 inhabitants, it is the second in the country), in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (of which it is the capital), on the coast of the Black Sea, and at 41 degrees north latitude.

Precipitation is definitely abundant, since it amounts to 2,435 millimeters (96 inches) per year. The rainiest season is autumn, however, rainfall exceeds 150 mm (6 in) per month from July to March. The eastern part of the Black Sea is rainy because it receives humid currents from the west all year round (the climate therefore takes on oceanic characteristics), but Batumi is particularly rainy due to the proximity of the mountains.
To the east, in fact, are the Meskheti Mountains, belonging to the Lesser Caucasus, which further increase rainfall, forcing humid air masses to rise and condense. The highest peak reaches 2,850 meters (9,350 feet), but in the vicinity of Batumi the mountains are lower, and reach 1,320 meters (4,330 ft) in Mount Mtirala. This area is also protected by a national park. In these mountains, large quantities of snow accumulate in winter.

The winter, from December to February, is mild and rainy. The average temperature in January and February is around 8 °C (46.5 °F).
There can be very mild periods, during which the temperature reaches and exceeds 20 °C (68 °F) even in the middle of winter.
However, there can also be cold periods, with temperatures close to freezing, in which snow or rain mixed with snow can fall. Since the climate is very rainy, heavy snowfall can occur under certain conditions.

On the coldest nights, the temperature drops below freezing, although usually only slightly. The coldest record is -8.2 °C (17.2 °F), set in February 1950. Subsequently, the temperature dropped to -7.5 °C (18.5 °F) at the end of February 1985 and to -6.6 °C (20.1 °F) in February 1993.

Summer, from June to August, is warm and humid. There are periods of bad weather, with rain and thunderstorms, which last a few days, alternating with periods of good weather.
Temperatures are generally not very high, however, humidity can create a feeling of mugginess, especially in August, which is the warmest month with an average of about 24.5 °C (76 °F).
Unlike in Tbilisi and in the interior of Georgia, daytime temperatures rarely exceed 30 °C (86 °F), and it is more likely to do so outside of full summer, so in May, June and September, when it is easier for winds to blow from the interior. In these cases, temperatures can exceed 35 °C (95 °F), perhaps only for one day.
