The climate of Alexandria can be defined as Mediterranean, even though the winter is particularly mild and the rains are scarce.
The city is located on the north coast of Egypt, in the western part of the Nile delta.
Winter is so mild that it hardly ever snows (although it is said to have snowed in February 1950) and the temperature never drops below freezing. Hail-like solid precipitation have sometimes occurred, which was mistaken for snow.
Summer is long, hot and sunny. The prevailing wind comes from the north, and tempers the heat even though it carries the humidity of the sea. Occasionally, however, the wind from the desert can bring significant increases in temperature.
