Climate chart - Liberec
The climate of Liberec, a city in northern Czechia, located a short distance from the border with Poland and Germany, is moderately continental, characterized by cold winters, with temperatures often below freezing (0 °C or 32 °F), and mild to pleasantly warm summers. Given the position and the altitude (we are almost 400 meters or 1,300 feet above sea level), the summer is a little cooler and the rains are more abundant than in Prague and other cities of the country.
Winter is cold and gray. Snowfalls are frequent and more abundant than in other Czech cities.
Sometimes, cold waves from Siberia can occur, during which the temperatures can drop to -15 °C (5 °F) or below. The coldest record is -27 °C (-16.6 °F) and was set in January 1940.
In summer, the temperatures are pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities, although sometimes there can be rains and thunderstorms.
Every now and then (and more often in recent years due to global warming), there can be short hot periods, with maximum temperatures exceeding 30 °C (86 °F). The temperature reached 36 °C (97 °F) in July 1994.
