Climate chart - Split
The climate of Split is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
Split (Spalato in Italian), is located in Dalmatia, on the Adriatic coast, and is the second largest city in Croatia.
The city is located on a small peninsula, which closes the gulf of Kaštela together with the neighboring island of Ciovo. Further south we find some larger islands, Šolta, Brac and Hvar.
The winter, from December to February, is mild, and is characterized by sunny periods alternating with periods of bad weather.
Despite this, there can sometimes be very cold days due to air masses coming from the interior of the Balkan Peninsula, brought by the Bora wind. In these cases, the temperature can drop down to -6 -7 °C (19/21 °F) at night, and stay around freezing or a little below during the day. The coldest record is -9 °C (15.8 °F) and was set in January 1963.
During these cold periods, light snowfalls, generally not abundant, can also occur.

The summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with some afternoon thunderstorms, and a few rainy days, more likely in June.
The influence of the sea is not so evident, also because, as mentioned, there are islands that separate the city from the open sea, anyway, there can be very hot periods, sometimes even long, with highs of 34/35 °C (93/95 °F) and more. The highest record is 38.5 °C (101.3 °F) and was set in August 2015.
