Brazzaville's climate is tropical, with a dry season from June to September and a rainy season from October to May (in which there are two wetter periods in March-April and November-December). From June to August is the coolest time of the year, while from mid-August, even though the rains have not yet started, the temperature begins to rise.
The city is the capital of the Republic of Congo and is located 4 degrees south of the equator, at 320 meters (1,050 feet) above sea level. Beyond the Congo River lies Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
