The climate of Medellín, Colombia's second largest city, is
tropical, tempered by the altitude, with stable temperatures, warm but not too hot, all year round. Rains are frequent for much of the year, although there is a relatively dry season from December to February. From June to August there is another relatively dry season, in which however the rains, even though they are lighter, remain very frequent.
Medellín is known in Colombia as the city of eternal spring. Indeed, the humidity is not high, and the breeze cools the air.
The city is located in north-central Colombia, in the Antioquia department, at 6 degrees north latitude, in a valley in the Andean area at 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. However, there are some neighborhoods that are cooler because they are located on the mountain slopes and reach up to 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) in height.
