Climate chart - Cartagena
The climate of Cartagena (or Cartagena de Indias) is tropical, with a rainy period from May to November and a dry period from December to April. October stands out as the wettest month.
The city is located in the north of Colombia, on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, in the department of Bolívar, at 10 degrees north latitude.
In front of the bay of Cartagena we find the Isla de Tierra Bomba, while to the south we find the peninsula of Barú, sometimes called island of Barú.
Cartagena lies at the edge of the area over which hurricanes, the tropical cyclones of the Atlantic Ocean, can pass. This means that hurricanes affect this area quite rarely, furthermore the city is only brushed, however, some hurricanes that have passed in the area have been Joan in October 1988, Cesar in late July 1996, Matthew in late September 2016, and Iota in mid-November 2020. The hurricane season runs from June to November, but they are most likely from August to October.
