Climate chart - Bucaramanga
The climate of Bucaramanga, the "beautiful city of Colombia" (la "ciudad bonita de Colombia"), is tropical, tempered by the altitude, with stable temperatures, warm but not too hot, all year round. Rains are frequent for much of the year, although there is a relatively dry season from December to February. From June to August there is another relatively dry season, in which however the rains, even though they are lighter, remain very frequent.
The city is located in north-central Colombia, in the Santander department, at 7 degrees north latitude and at the foot of the eastern Andes mountain range, where there are mountains that exceed 4,000 meters (13,100 feet).
The average altitude of the city is 950 meters (3,115 feet), although some neighborhoods are located on slopes up to over 1,200 meters (3,900 ft), while others are located just above 600 meters (1,950 ft). South of Bucaramanga are Floridablanca and Piedecuesta, more or less at the same altitude, while further west is the city of Girón, at 680 meters (2,230 ft) above sea level.
The Palonegro airport, in the municipality of Lebrija, where weather data is measured, is located at 1,190 meters (3,900 ft), so it provides slightly lower temperatures than those actually measured in the city. At the university weather station, at 1,020 meters (3,346 ft) above sea level, the average maximum temperature ranges from 27.6 °C (81.7 °F) in November to 28.7 °C (83.4 °F) in August.
