Climate chart - Fuzhou
The climate of Fuzhou (or Foochow) is humid subtropical, with mild winters and hot, muggy and rainy summers.
The city is the capital of the Fujian province and is located in the south-east of China, at 26 degrees north latitude, on the estuary of the Min River and close to the Taiwan Strait. Around the city there are green hills. Liushanwang Park is located at 700 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level.
The rains are frequent from February to June, a period in which the sun is rarely seen, and reach a maximum in May and June, during the period of the "plum rain". In the rest of the summer, from June to September, the sun becomes a little more frequent, and the rains, which often occur in the form of thunderstorms, become more rare.
The summer is also particularly hot. In 2022, the temperature reached 41.9 °C (107.4 °F) in July and 41.4 °C (106.5 °F) in August. In July 2003 and August 2022, the average maximum was 38.2 °C (100.7 °F).
Autumn and the first part of winter, from October to December, is the relatively driest time of the year.
Even though the winter is mild, there can sometimes be cold periods, during which the maximum temperature remains around 6/7 °C (43/45 °F).
Snow in Fuzhou is very rare. Snowfalls occurred in December 1975, December 1991 and February 2018.
The city can be hit by typhoons, the tropical cyclones of Southeast Asia. Typically, typhoons pass in this area from June to early November, but they have sometimes affected the area outside of this period, as happened in May 2006 with typhoon Chanchu (or Caloy). The area most at risk is the coastal one, since it can receive the strongest winds, as well as storm surges.

Fuzhou

Best Time

The best time to visit Fuzhou is autumn, and in particular from mid-October to late November, as spring, although mild, is rainy. It must be said that a typhoon can still arrive until the beginning of November.
