Puerto Montt

The city is located in southern Chile, in the Los Lagos region, in the southernmost part of the Chilean Central Valley, at 41 degrees south latitude. We are in an area where the coast is indented and widens into bays and inlets. Although the Pacific coast lies 70 km (43 mi) to the west, Puerto Montt faces south on the coast of the Reloncaví Sound, a bay that then widens into the Gulf of Ancud, which separates the island of Chiloé from the mainland.
North of the city is Lake Llanquihue, the second largest in Chile after Lake General Carrera.
To the east are the Andes, with volcanoes and lakes, and with the limit of perennial snow at about 1,500 meters (4,900 feet). On the border with Argentina we find Mount Tronador, the highest peak in the area with its 3,491 meters (11,453 feet).
