Climate chart - Chillan
The climate of Chillán can be defined as Mediterranean, since the winters are mild and rainy, and the summers are hot and sunny.
The city is located in central Chile, at 36 degrees south latitude, in the Ñuble region, of which it is the capital, and 75 km (45 mi) wawy from the Pacific Ocean. To the east are the Andes, with peaks exceeding 4,000 meters (13,100 ft).
However, compared to the actual Mediterranean climate, there are some differences. First of all, summer nights are cool, and sometimes even a little cold. In addition, fog can form in winter. Then, in autumn and winter, and in particular from May to July, the rains are very abundant (as it happens only in limited areas of the Mediterranean).
In any case, snow is very rare: in August 2007, it snowed for the first time in several years.
In summer, when the winds blow from the inside, there can be very hot days, although at night the temperature drops a lot. In the worst moments the temperature can reach 40 °C (104 °F).

Chillán

Best Time

To visit Chillán, you can choose spring and autumn, and especially from mid-March to mid-April and from mid-October to mid-November.
In summer, from December to February, the sun shines more often, but it can get very hot during the day. On the other hand, temperatures are milder in the Andes.
The Pacific Ocean at this latitude is cold even in summer.
