Climate chart - Nain
The climate of Nain is subarctic, with long, freezing cold winters and fairly mild summers.

Nain is a town of 1,200 inhabitants located in eastern Canada, on the rugged coast of the Labrador Sea (in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador), and at 56 degrees north latitude.

Since there are two months with an average temperature above 10 °C (50 °F), according to the Köppen classification the climate is subarctic (Dfc), however, this value is exceeded only slightly, so we are close to the polar climate of the tundra (ET).
Even though we are at the same latitude as Scotland and southern Denmark, the climate of this area is so cold because in winter, air masses often arrive from the Canadian hinterland, while in summer the sea remains cold as it is crossed by the Labrador current. In fact, the sea at Nain is normally frozen in winter and spring.

Precipitation is abundant for this type of climate, amounting to 870 millimetres (34.2 inches) per year, due to the typical instability of eastern Canada. The rainiest season is summer. For several months of the year, frequent and sometimes heavy snowfall occurs.
On average, 4 metres and 20 centimetres (165 inches) of snow fall per year. Although in recent decades snow has not exceeded two metres (78 in) in depth, it has exceeded this value in the past. In January 1990, it reached almost three metres (118 in).
It usually snows from October to May, almost exclusively from December to March, prevalently in November and April, and alternating in October and May.

On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to -30 °C (-22 °F) or below almost every year. The coldest record is -39.4 °C (-20.9 °F), set in January 1939.

In summer, there can sometimes be short warm periods, during which the temperature can exceed 25 °C (77 °F), and more rarely 30 °C (86 °F). The highest record is 33.3 °C (91.9 °F), set in June 1999 and in July 2000.
