Climate chart - Labrador City
The climate of Labrador City is cold continental, with long, very cold winters and mild summers. According to the Köppen classification, it is called a subarctic climate (Dfc), since there are only three months with an average temperature above 10 °C (50 °F).
Labrador City is a city of 7,500 inhabitants located in eastern Canada, in the western part of Labrador, at 550 meters (1,800 feet) above sea level and almost 53 degrees north latitude. Nearby is the town of Wabush.

Precipitation is quite abundant for this type of climate, since it amounts to 860 millimeters (34 inches) per year, due to the typical instability of eastern Canada. The rainiest season is summer. For several months of the year, there is frequent, and sometimes heavy, snowfall.
On average, more than 4 meters (157 in) of snow fall per year. In the winter of 1969, the snow exceeded two meters (6 and a half feet) in height. It usually snows from October to May, almost exclusively from December to March, prevalently in November and April, and alternating in October and May.

On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to -35 °C (-31 °F) or below almost every year. The coldest record is -47.8 °C (-54 °F), set in February 1973. More recently, the temperature dropped to -46.8 °C (-52.2 °F) in February 2015.
In summer, fog can sometimes form.

Sometimes, there can be short hot periods, during which the temperature can reach 28/30 °C (82/86 °F). The highest record is 33.3 °C (91.9 °F), set in June 1983. In July 2023, the average maximum temperature was 23.8 °C (74.8 °F).
