Climate chart - Halifax
Halifax has a humid continental climate, with some oceanic characteristics (hence, windy and unstable), with cold winters, when the average temperature is a few degrees below freezing, and quite warm, rainy summers.
Halifax is a city of 440,000 inhabitants, located in southeastern Canada, in the province of Nova Scotia, of which it is the capital, on the Atlantic coast, and at almost 45 degrees north latitude.

Precipitation is abundant, since it amounts to 1,450 millimeters (57 inches) per year, in fact disturbances pass in all seasons, due to the continuous clashes of air masses.

Halifax

All year round, but especially in summer, fog forms quite often.

On average, 1.5 meters (60 inches) of snow fall per year. It usually snows from mid-November to mid-April. The heaviest snowfall in a day was of 66 cm (26 in) and occurred in February 2004.
On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to at least -15 °C (5 °F) every year. The coldest record is -28.5 °C (-19.3 °F), set in January 1993. In January 2004, the monthly daily average was -10.1 °C (13.8 °F).
Because Halifax faces the Atlantic Ocean and exposed to the south, it can get southerly currents even in the middle of winter, which bring temperatures above freezing and rainfall.

In summer, there can be short hot periods, usually no more than two or three days, during which the temperature can reach 30/32 °C (86 °F). The highest record is 35 °C (95 °F), set in August 1995.

From August to October, every now and then Halifax and Nova Scotia can be affected by hurricanes from the Atlantic, which turn towards the northeast after having affected the Caribbean. They generally arrive weakened because they have to cross a cold sea, however they can still bring heavy rains and strong winds.

On the south coast of Nova Scotia, the sea does not freeze in winter, except in the most enclosed and protected bays. In summer, the sea is very cool, if not cold, for swimming, however, it is definitely warmer than in the rest of Canada.

The weather data are taken at the international airport, which is located 15 km (9 mi) north of the city (and the coast), and therefore is a little colder in winter.
