The climate of Greater Sudbury is continental, with freezing winters and quite warm summers.

Greater Sudbury, or Sudbury, is a city of 165,000 inhabitants, located in southeastern Canada, in Ontario, at 270 meters (885 feet) above sea level and almost 47 degrees north latitude. About 60 km (37 mi) to the south is Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes. Around the city, however, there are several smaller lakes.

The climate is unstable and characterized by continuous clashes of air masses.

On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to -25 °C (-13 °F) or even below. The coldest record, at least in recent decades, is -39.3 °C (-38.7 °F), set in January 1982. In January 1994 the daily average was -21.4 °C (-6.5 °F).
On average, 265 cm (105 in) of snow fall per year. The record snow depth was recorded in March 1959, with 145 cm (57 in). It usually snows from mid or late October to April, but occasionally, as in 2020, it can snow even in May.

On the warmest days of the year, the temperature usually reaches or exceeds 30 °C (86 °F), while it very rarely reaches 35 °C (95 °F). The record high is 38.3 °C (100.9 °F), set in July 1975. In early July 1988, the temperature reached or exceeded 35 °C (95 °F) for five days in a row, plus two more days at the end of the month.
