Climate chart - Alert
In Alert, there is a polar tundra climate, with a long and cold winter, and a short summer above freezing.
Alert is a settlement without permanent inhabitants, located in the far north of Canada, in the territory of Nunavut, in the region of Qikiqtaaluk (or Baffin region), on the north coast of Ellesmere Island, at 82 degrees north latitude and 830 km (515 mi) away from the North Pole. It is considered the northernmost settlement in the world. About 60 km (37 mi) to the south is the northern coast of Greenland.

Precipitation is decidedly low, since it amounts to 150 millimeters (6 in) per year, with a maximum in summer. During the long winter, light snow often falls, but the amount is generally low.
On average, about 190 cm (75 in) of snow fall per year. It can snow all year round. The snowiest month is September, due to the greater amount of precipitation that falls compared to the winter months.
It usually rains only in summer, from June to August. July is the only month when rainfall is more likely than snowfall.

On the coldest days of the year, which are usually recorded in February and March (as is typical in polar areas), the temperature drops below -40 °C (-40 °F) almost every year. The coldest record is -50 °C (-58 °F), set in February 2002. In that month, the monthly daily average was -39.6 °C (-39.3 °F).

In summer, there can sometimes be short mild periods, in which the temperature can reach or exceed 15 °C (59 °F). The highest record is 21 °C (70 °F), set in July 2019.

At Alert, the sea (Arctic Ocean) is frozen most of the year, but partially thaws in summer.

As for the length of the days, since we are far north of the Polar Circle, the polar night is long, and goes from October 14 to February 26.
Instead, the period of the midnight sun, during which the sun never sets, goes from April 7 to September 4. Before and after this period, the white nights, in which it does not get completely dark all night, last almost seven months, from March 9 to October 3.
