Climate chart - Sao Paulo
The climate of São Paulo is subtropical, with a cool, relatively dry season from June to August and a hot, rainy season from November to March.
São Paulo is the largest city on the American continent and is located in southern Brazil, just south of the Tropic of Capricorn, at an altitude of 800 meters (2,600 feet). The coast of the Atlantic Ocean is located about 65 km (40 mi) from the center and 35 km (25 mi) from the southern outskirts of the city.
Given that it is exposed to different air masses (cool air from the ocean, warm air from inland areas, sometimes even cold air of Antarctic origin), the weather in São Paulo is often variable, in fact there can be quite cool days in summer, with highs of 20/23 °C (68/73 °F) in January, as well as hot days in winter, with highs of 28 °C (82 °F) and above.
From June to August, the dry period, is the winter of the southern hemisphere. During this period, there can sometimes be outbursts of cold air from the south, and the night temperature can drop to about 5 °C (41 °F) or even below. In July 2013, there was a day with a maximum temperature of 10 °C (50 °F).
In addition, fog can form in winter, especially on the outskirts of the city, where the temperature is also slightly lower.
From mid-August to October, in spring, the temperature rises and there can be very hot periods, however, sometimes cool, winter-like weather can return. The rains become more frequent, especially in October.
In October 2014, the temperature reached 38 °C (100 °F).
