The climate of Santos is
tropical, without a real dry season, but with a warmer and rainier period from December to March, and a cooler and less rainy period from May to August.
The city is located in southern Brazil, about 30 km (18 mi) south of Sao Paulo, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and just south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Given the latitude, Santos is a very rainy and not very sunny city.
From June to August, it is the
winter of the southern hemisphere, which is often a dry period in Brazil, but rainfall occurs here due to the winds coming from the sea. Furthermore, in this period there can be cool days, with highs of 17/18 °C (62/64 °F) or even lower. In July 2013, there were two days with rain and a maximum temperature of 13 °C (55.5 °F), while in June and July 2021, the maximum was 15/16 °C (59/61 °F) for a few days.
From mid-August to October, in spring, the temperature rises and there can be
very hot periods, however, sometimes cool, winter-like weather can return.
Of course, it can sometimes get very hot even in summer. In September 1997 and in January 2014, the temperature reached 40 °C (104 °F).
Best Time
The best time to visit Santos is from June to August, being the coolest and driest of the year. The sea, however, is very cool, especially in July and August.
There is no perfect time to go to the beach, because the hot season is also rainy and not very sunny, however, you can choose the period from mid-April to mid-May, which is less rainy than the summer months and not as cool as the winter ones.
